Reminder State

How to help a client in the “Reminder state”

Over the years, I have been able to identify four significantly different states of healing that can hold clients back from building a lucrative, transformational business. Understanding what this means and how to help them can make all the difference, not just for their income, but also for the rest of their lives.

As a business coach, I have to make sure that my clients don’t try to build a business on unresolved issues that are still haunting them and holding them back.

The most difficult stage of healing is the “Reminder state”. In this state, the client has the mindset that she is the living proof for an injustice that happened, and if she ever moved on from the pain she feels, she would condone the trauma somehow.

In my work with combat veterans I have seen many times, how soldiers hold onto the pain of loosing a buddy, because this is the only way they know how to honor his life and the way he died. Other people hold on to the pain they felt when they were abused, because they believe, often subconsciously, that if they ever let go, they would give into their perpetrator’s belief that what happened wasn’t really a big deal, or that it was even their fault.

The reason this is the most difficult stage to overcome is, because the level of self identification and even pride of self sacrifice for the cause is so great, that the person feels very resistant, sometimes even attacked by the offer to release the response to what happened. The belief that nobody will ever understand how bad it was, which is, of course true, holds them in a state of “You are either for me or against me.” “You (the practitioner) have to help me feel better, but you will never be able to fully release my pain!”

One characteristic of people in the reminder state is that they work VERY HARD on releasing their problem. They work on it every day. They go to any partitioners. They share very openly how intensely they are trying to get rid of the memories, and how bad they have been. Their trauma, at some point, becomes a prison, a life style of trying to heal, but then withdrawing back into “Nobody can help me, no matter how good they are.”

People in the reminder state have a certain sense of defensiveness around them. Their traumatic story has trained them to decide very quickly if someone is either friend or enemy, and if they feel even slightly misunderstood, they easily put even friends on the enemy side. They are used to the loneliness, and the repetitiveness of their thoughts, and deep down they see their lives as permanently altered, even though they will never give up hope.

In business, I have seen that people in the reminder state are usually not successful, as long as they buil their message on the trauma they are reminding the world of.

Instead of drawing clients that are happy to pay them what they are worth, they draw people with similar trauma, and they sister up with them.

Instead of building a business, they begin to build a support group.

As a coach, I help them understand which part of their story is ready to be turned into a business. There are parts that are truly flexible and wonderful, and many people would pay to get help from them. We don’t have to build our business on the part of us that is suffering. Instead, we can benefit from the wisdom we always had, or the wisdom that we feel very powerful and comfortable with, that is a result from overcoming our story.

The part of the story that is in reminder state, on the other hand, deserves more attention than a business plan can provide.

This part deserves compassion, as well as a vision. With skillful EFT, clients begin to see that there are many ways of honoring what happened and doing the past or people justice. This can be very challenging in the beginning, but it is truly a powerful and meaningful path.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Anger Management

How To Deal With Anger – Acknowledgement Comes Before Healing

How to deal with Anger, when it feels so overwhelming, so clear and real?

Many of my EFT students are asking this question, and I have found over the years, that being able to handle anger well is one of the most important skills, personally as well as professionally.

In my experience, anger comes from a sense of betrayal, missing out, being unrecognized or treated unfairly.

Anger hurts.

Angry people are not just angry, they are fearful, hopeless, struggle with a sense of powerlessness about their ability to change a situation, that makes the feeling of anger a neccessart emotion to protect themselves and get something done.

My first advise when dealing with anger, wether it is your own, or someone else’s:

Acknowledge it!

Acknowledge that shomething happened that shouldn’t have happened.

Acknowledge that things hae been unfair

Acknowledge that it hurts to feel this way.

Acknowledge that you or the other person deserved to feel better, and that it is not OK to be in the situation you/they are in.

I can say this very generally, do you notice?

No matter what happened or is still going on, and angry person deserves acknowledgment.

So here is what this looks like:

I am Sorry!

No really – I AM sorry that this happened to you, and you now have to feel this way.

This is a big deal for you.

This must hurt.

Nobody will ever understand how much you are going through.

That’s not fair.

Yes, it is a big deal, and If I had been through what you experienced, I would feel the same way.

This is true.

Do you notice how comforting and affirming it is when people hold space for our anger, instead of trying to “fix” it?

Try it.

Acknowledge your own feelings and the feelings of others.

You will see how much better you feel, and how freeing it is to not be judged but heard.

When you are working with a very angry person, acknowledgment without judgment comes before healing.

Please share your experiences with this below!

I’d love to hear from you!

Love

Ingrid

Marketing Your Healing Practice – How Much Technology Do You Really Need?

When it comes to marketing your healing or coaching practice, using the internet can be very overwhelming.

Most transformational entrepreneurs don’t have enough technological background to understand how internet marketing actually works.

So they spend hours after hours trying to figure out their blog or website, finding the button to upload a picture, and the word “Autoresponder” leaves them shrug their shoulders.

I have certainly been there. More than two years ago, I felt that I just can’t be successful in my coaching practice until I have all this figured out.

So I took charge, and started to travel the country to learn from the best.

I did a number of programs, live workshops, tele classes and a mastermind program with Connie Ragen Green and Jeanette Cates, who is famous for her “tech tamer” programs. I joined Armand Morin’s AM2 Mastermind program, went to big Seminar and many other live events. I went to unseminar with PAt O’Bryan and learned from some of the forerunners in internet marketing and online business. I have attended many more workshops and purchased lots of outstanding programs to help me get through the hurdles of feeling comfortable and knowledgable online.

I am very grateful for the continued support I am receiving and all the learning that I am able to do.

However, for my coaching clients, I highly recommend to not invest so much in the beginning.

A transformational entrepreneur who is still working on reaching the 6 figure mark is usually very well served with the following:

A wordpress blog

An autoresponder/newsletter program

A freebie to get people to optin

A presence on Facebook, twitter and linkedin.

It is very important that you are able to gather your site’s visitor’s email addresses, so that you can serve them in your newsletters and build a good relationship.

Relationship marketing is everything in this economy, where people are very mindful about who they spend their money with and who they trust enough to take advise and coaching from.

Nobody would sign up for an expensive program with you until you have proven your skill level, have established a relationship that makes your visitors feel that they know, like and trust you.

Yes, there is a lot of information out there about all the wonderful things you can do online, and if you have the time to learn, and it truly fascinates you, there is nothing wrong in learning more about what is possible.

But it can also sidetrack you from making those personal phone calls, meeting potential clients in person and always think about the package that you have to offer to help others in their life or business.

Nothing is more important than those personal connections. So please make sure that you don’t overdo your focus on the internet, and leave the house to meet people instead.

For everything you don’t know how to do, just get a webmaster. These are people who are skilled and trained to solve your online problem in minutes, where it would take you hours to even find out how to learn what needs to be done.

Having a professional looking blog, a free giveaway with an optin box, an auto responder service and a presence on Facebook, twitter and linkedin is truly enough to support you in growing your business as a transformational entrepreneur.

Would you hire yourself?

Think about it:

If you are in business, you are not only your own boss, you are also your own employee.

Would you hire yourself for the job? Would you feel that you are the best match for the the tasks that the job requires?

In some cases, the answer is clearly “YES!”

Hopefully, your focus, your story and your passion to do what you are doing qualify you to excell in your business.

But how about the things you are not so passionate about?

How about marketing?

Advertising?

Making phone calls?

How about the online part of your business, the graphic design?

Do you have the experience to be your own business coach?

Do you have the vision to know exactly what the next steps need to be?

Do you have the time to write your articles, post things on twitter and facebook?

OR do these activities take away from the time you need to move your business forward?

If you wouldn’t hire yourself for specific tasks, then you have to make a decision:

Either work hard and learn the skills you need to excell, or

Outsource the problems as quickly as possible.

For some first time entrepreneurs, especially coaches and healers, the answer seems to be a bit more complex, because you might believe you don’t have the financing to pay someone else to do a job for you.

But is this true?

Think about how much energy you lose trying to learn skills that you don’t feel passionate about.

Think about how you could spend a Saturday afternoon teaching a class or coaching a client instead of learning how to create your blog header.

Imagine how much money you want to make per hour, and see the time you invest into leearning your skills as money you invest into your business.

If you don’t outsource what you are clearly not the dream candidate for, you basically state to the Universe that you have no intention to get started with your business rightaway.

You tell the Universe that you feel it is more important to focus on what you don’t know than what you do know.

You spend a good portion of your life dealing with what you don’t love, and allowing the frustration to sidetrack you from serving those that need your unique skill set and gifts to move forward in their lives.

When you look at it that way: How can you NOT afford to outsource what you don’t love or are sufficiently good at?

Please leave some feedback below!

Until Tomorrow!

Much Love

Ingrid
