Day 4: The story of the five star restaurant and the soup kitchen or: Are you getting paid what you are worth?

Welcome back!

So yesterday, we wondered what you could do if you were in the restaurant owner’s shoes and truly wanted to make a difference and help the poor? Since you are reading an EFT blog, you most likely don’t have a restaurant, but I love that metaphor, so let’s stick with it for a moment.

Feel free to replace the details of the story with better examples from your own business.

Here is one idea that truly resonates with me:

Start a “soup kitchen” yourself, where you teach the guests how to cook! Allow for them to learn something, every time they come. Ask them to give back for every meal they receive, either to the soup kitchen, or to a guest who needs help. Let it be an interactive place of giving and receiving, so that everybody benefits. The spirit of giving and receiving will begin to give people hope, confidence and self esteem, and they will begin to take pride in “their” soup kitchen. Some will begin to take action, add creativity to the meals and beauty to its display.

Something will happen that can’t be done by feeding alone. The spirit of giving and taking will help many to heal and gain the confidence to move forward with their lives. Not because they had a great meal in a fine restaurant, but because they see value and love in their lives and what they do.

The best way to get out of this feeling of being stuck is simply to get moving. Giving and receiving is a movement that can be the beginning of many wonderful things. The more you give, the more you receive, and the more you receive, the more you give. Giving without receiving is just as one sided as receiving without giving. Think about it. Find a way for your clients to give back in a meaningful way that has value to you, too.  Is it is time for you to ask to be paid for what you are worth?

Let’s talk about how to have a valuable, virtual soup kitchen tomorrow.

Much Love

Ingrid

Ingrid, This is a great metaphor that really resonates. So many heart-full entrepreneurs of all kinds end up depleting themselves. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and perspective!

Thanks Bobbye. I appreciate your kind feedback! Yes, it is important that we can sustain ourselves while giving to others, instead of depleting our resources until we have no other choice than to give up. I am grateful that more and more people now understand the importance concept behind receiving.
